lately i have been OBSESSED with andrew bird. the first album i heard of his was noble beast. i have no clue if that was his first album or not. i am a huge music person, but many times i do not know titles of songs, albums songs are on or when they were released. in fact, i just had to look up the name of that album. so i'm kind of like a wannabe music snob who doesn't know anything other than artist names. whatever. back to a-bird- i loved that album. i mean, LOVED it. it's a perfect mix of sweetness and sadness and longing and love. all the things that really touch me about music. he just came out with a new album last week (or the week before, i can't really remember) and now i'm obsessed with it also. i've been meaning to talk about it on here for a while because if you don't listen to him, you should. here's one of my favorites from noble beast- check it out!!!

midday snack
yall, i have to admit it. i'm a daytime eater. i want to eat all day, from the time i get up, until about 4 pm. then i could honestly be done. unfortunately, lp doesn't let me just not eat. he says i need my strength (i think he wants to fatten me up). anyway, to counter-balance eating at night, i try to eat like a normal person. you know, like not eating my entire caloric allowance before most people get home from work. part of this means that i am hungry all. day. long. i have always been a grazer so it's easy enough to spread out my lunch. i mean, i pretty much eat snacks all day (veggies and hummus, veggie burger, cheese and crackers, etc) so no worries. my biggest problem has been that i get the biggest wave of hunger around 3ish. like, crazy hungry. i've been working out the perfect midday snack and i finally found it- lower sugar oatmeal. it's so delicious AND it's so filling. i think because it's hot and it takes a while to eat that it really fills me up. also, it's only 120 calories. perfect amount for a snack for me. seriously- try it!!! it's a tasty midday snack.

favorite things: rain edition
it's been raining here a lot lately. although in reality i do not like the rain, my head always creates something fantastic involving rain. i think it all starts with one of the best movies ever. the part with gene kelley dancing in the rain is so magical to me. i still get all goos bumpy when i watch it!! i can imagine lovely rain dances with lp or my friends, pretty umbrellas, lovely rainboots (i do love me some hunters!!!), beautiful rainbows. when i was little, i would dress up, paint my face (it's true, i did that) and run out in the rain with my little pink striped umbrella and do rain dances. these days, i enjoy the rain if i don't have to go anywhere but hate it when i have to go to work. i still love stomping around in puddles, although these days i have traded in my umbrella for a raincoat for practical reasons (small sidewalks=umbrella agony!). here are some of my favorite things, rain edition!!!

this week's phone pics
always gotta upload those phone pics. man, i really want to take more pictures with my nice camera but i ALWAYS have my phone on me and it's so small and compact. i think one of my april resolutions will be to try to take my good camera out more and use it. the weather has been nicer these days so it should be easier....maybe?? i'll test it out this weekend since my mom is coming to visit!!! hooray! oh, sidenote: weebay and i got into an illegal dog park this week. it was amazing. the cops came and everyone scattered and i felt like i was in a 1920's speakeasy. so great.

this week
lp was gone this week and every time he's gone, there gets to be a point where i'm bored. that point came early this time, i think maybe because it was a 'short' trip (short trip for us is defined as under 2 weeks!!!). when i get bored, i usually clean, try to make something and burn it or myself and put on lots of different clothes.

shoes
yall, i have to tell you that there is something i rediscover every year, for the past 10 years, that makes me so very happy. my kick a** dr scholls sandals. they rock. i have seriously had them for about 10 years and every year when i bust them out i get about 10 compliments. you can wear them with jeans or a dress or shorts- versatile!!! plus, they are pretty comfy, which means a lot to this 31 year old. if you're looking for some kewl shoes, these are pretty high on my list.
here's what i wore them with today (ps-mine are red) note that awesome crack at the bottom of the mirror. yeah, i was at work and instead of a full length mirror, it's two mirrors stacked together.
when the cat's away
lp is gone on a business trip. i say "business" but he's not really in business, so i guess i just mean work trip. anyway, every time he leaves it's a time of reflection for me. this time, i've been reflecting on how great it is when he's here. here are 5 things that i need lp here for:
1. turning on music. i never remember when i'm here by myself. i think because i work with kids who talk ALL. DAY. LONG. that when i come home i can sit in silence for hours. but i don't really think it's good for me, nor do i really enjoy it.
2. making me stay up later. i will always stay up a little later when lp is home so that we can talk or just hang out. when i'm by myself it's bedtime at 915, just because i'm bored.
3. calming me down. i'm prone to bouts of freaking out and i will make up things that i "need" to do, when it can usually wait until another time.
4. playing with weebay. that dog loves his play time with papa and although i will take him on walks and play with him, lp is so great at wrestling around with him and getting some energy out.
5. cooking. i don't do it. last night i had cheese and hummus for dinner. bo-ring.
so i am so glad he'll be back soon. life will go back to normal and this house won't be so quiet and i'll have my both my boys home with me!!!

outdoor
this weekend i cleared out the weeds from our back patio area. now, it's all bricked over, but the little cracks between the bricks are the perfect place for tiny little weeds to pop up and turn into big, ugly weeds all over the ground. so i pulled all the weeds i could find yesterday. now i'm on to thinking about how to redo our back a little. the furniture is old and so disgusting. i'm really not kidding. it's falling apart and mismatched and nasty. i want plants and furniture and a little color back there. here are some backyards that are totally rocking my world.
first up, flowers. i will probably kill some flowers again, but that will not stop me from attempting to garden!!!! how cute is this flower-tub?!?!?!?

next, herbs and veggies. i am definitely about to attempt to grow cucumbers, tomatoes, rosemary and basil. and maybe jalapenos. i have seen this in a variety of ways, but i LOVE the idea of a dresser drawer planter.
milk crates look adorable too!! although, i don't know how the dirt stays in the milk crates....
and last but not least, gutter planters. i mean, how awesome are these???? maybe i can make lp make these for me....

week in pictures
oh my goodness, this week was so gorgeous. i love spring. i actually like all the seasons, but i spring in dc is absolutely gorgeous. it's bright and colorful and breezy- you really can't ask for much else. the warmer weather inspired me a lot and i was out and about most of the week. on tuesday, lp had a really bad day so i took weebay out for a walk to give him some time alone and we met some really great people on our walk. we were out for an hour!!! of course i had taken a glass (read: red solo cup) of wine on our walk so everyone got to see that. but it was great. more and more people are out and we have now met a ton of dog owners on our daily walks. our street alone has some great dogs and on saturday and sunday we had what i was calling "dog parties." everyone brought their dogs out and we let them run around and wrestle each other. it was so adorable and really wore weebay out. of course, he was the tiny dog trying to play with the big dogs. as usual. it's pretty funny. saturday night a bunch of us went and had a few drinks to celebrate st patrick's day. always a fun time!!! sunday, i pulled all the weeds in the back yard. i'm going to (cross fingers) plant some things next week. we will see how that goes, as last year i killed everything i planted. anyway, here are some pics i took this week!!!

weebay is loving all the grass. this grass was almost his height. he just rolled all around in it.
he had his last round of shots. this big boy now weighs in at 11.8 pounds and was wiped out after the visit to the vet in the rain!!!
