Hottest place ever

No, I'm not talking about hell, I'm talking about my apartment! I don't actually get to control my own heating situation and it's driving me crazy! I live in an older building. It's the kind of place that the building actually has to turn on the heat and I can decide if I want more in my apartment by flipping another switch (um, no thanks). Not only that, but there's a lovely radiator in my bathroom (that is the size of a coffin) which also adds some heat. This makes my place so so SOOOOOOO hot! So hot, in fact, that I had a window open while it was snowing. So hot that I sleep with my window cracked open when it's 20 degrees outside. So hot that I will open the tiny bathroom window as I dry my hair in the mornings so that I can get a little bit of air so that I don't sweat my guts out before I go to work. The place is hot. And it's in a huge contrast to the weather outside (which is aroud 20 in the mornings and gets up to the mid 30s by the afternoon) so I'm so confused as to what to wear and what it will feel like outside. I'm going NUTS trying to cool off my apartment- during the coldest it's ever been here!!!

Snow, ya'll!!!

First snow in DC and it's apparently the most snow the metro area has had. EVER. Right now I think we're at 10 inches and supposed to get a few more before the day is over. Oh my goodness! So of course I've been bugging LP ever since I heard about it to go play with me in the snow. These are some pictures from my rooftop!

Let's hope that we make it through the day!!!

Be-leaf it!!!

i feel like i have a lot of things to blog about, but unfortunately, i haven't really felt like writing so this old thing has gone by the wayside. But i'm back (for now) and so i'll keep it to 2 things. First, i am really happy about moving to a new place. it was kind of scary and overwhelming at first to move to a whole new place and have almost no friends. i am really not sure why i didn't think about all of it before i left, but i sure didn't! now that i'm here, i am slightly impressed with myself for being in a new town with new people and exploring a city pretty much alone. lp is still at that stupid training, so i've really had to do all the exploring and finding things by myself. it's a nice feeling to be somewhere and realize that you really can do these things by yourself, even if you don't really have anyone else by you physically. it's also kind of nice not really knowing anyone. it gives you a real chance to meet new people. and if you don't like them, you don't have to talk to them again! ha!!

so, second thing. my new friends shea and geach took me to see leaves. i was telling them about how this was the first time in a while that i had really seen leaves change colors. in texas, the leaves are either green or brown. that's it. so we were talking about it and they decided that we should go on a drive and check out the leaves. we went towards mount vernon and drove through some parks and along a really pretty road with tons of leaves and i took pictures!

i really liked all the leaves that had falen on the ground against the green grass. it looks so pretty!!!

feet and leaves!

we also found a "fort" that was an old weapons storage place back during the war. don't ask me which war, i didn't actually read the sign because it was raining.

geach liked playing on the fort. like a bunch of 5 year old boys!!!

shea-shea playing paparazzi (like always)

shea and geach. looking like a land's end catalog model couple! ha ha!!!

Lazy Sunday

this weekend I had absolutely no plans! it was nice thinking about having nothing to do all weekend....and a little boring. friday ended up being ok, because i had to work and then my new friend shea invited me to hang out on her friend's roof. it was perfect for what i was wanting- hanging out but not being too crazy. it started raining so i ended up getting home around 12. perfect timing for my old sleepy butt! saturday i woke up around 8 (super late for me!) and headed to the gym for a bit before lounging around and then checking out a museum in the afternoon. today i woke up and went for a run/walk and then headed to the national equality march. in case you didn't know, it was this huge march for the lgbtq community to get equal rights for marriage and all that. i am a big supoorter of this cause, not just for my friends (and my bff eric!) but just because i'm in awe that in a time where we are so "open minded" people have these ridiculous ideas about gay marriage. and the majority of the people who are against it use absurd comments to back up their views. nobody will want to marry their goats!!! and if they do, who cares?!?! also, many of these people are so in favor of THEIR freedom but when it comes to someone else's freedom who has a different lifestyle than theirs, they are the first to deny their rights as an american. anywho, i went and took some photos! and i got some funny stuff to show ya'll!!!

if you can't read this cute little kids' t-shirt it says "got dads?" ha ha!!

this adorable little puppy had a shirt that says "i'm the straight one" HA!!

bear

so i was trying to be incognito but this was the unofficial uniform of the march. the american apparel shirt that says "legalize gay" in purple or turquoise. i didn't take pictures of everyone who had one on, but i'd say about 50% of the people had one on.

rainbow segueway!! (i have no clue how to spell that word, by the way, so i guessed!)

Rain+Dillo Dirt+ACL= FUN!!!!!

This weekend was ACL!! Hooray! One of my favorite festivals of all time- although, I haven't been to many festivals! I took my camera on Friday. I got to see: Dr. Dog (yay!), Phoenix (so good!), Raphael Saadiq (he was AWESOME live- amazing voice), John Legend (who played my favorite Beatles song, how could I not love it?!?!), Them Crooked Vultures (eh) and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. They were so super awesome great! Karen O (the lead singer) is so amazing. She changed costumes, rocked out on stage and had an amazing stage presence. I was beyond blown away! Here are some pics of the first day:

after, LP came and picked me up and we went and met some friends out at a bar. i was exhausted though, so i could only make it out anout an hour. sleepy!!!

Saturday, there was 70% chance of rain. I decided not to take my camera and thank goodness! I saw the BEST LIVE SHOW maybe possibly ever. A band called !!! (pronounced chk chk chk) and they rocked my face off. then we saw flogging molly and bon iver. it was a downpour the entire time. i'm so glad i didn't bring my camera! but luckily, i DID bring it sunday. um, yuck. it was this gross, wet, muddy, smelly barnyard of a place sunday. we found a grassy spot, parked it and listened to: white lies, arctic monkeys, passion pit, ben harper, girl talk and i was going to stay for pearl jam but the smell, mud and my overall exhaustion was too much. i had to leave. this is why:
