Spring in the city

it's spring-hooray! so far in dc, the weather appears to be a bit bipolar. one minute it's 80 and sunny, then it's cloudy and 55, the wind blows one day, it rains the next and then it's sunny and warm again. needless to say, i have no clue what to wear. ever. kind of annoying, but it has led to some wonderful days! for one thing, dc held its annual kite festival. i LOVE kites. they're so pretty and colorful and i think it's really interesting when people can do cool things with their kites (i'm not one of those people, but that's why i'm a watcher). lp and i wandered down to the kite festival. it was sunny (yay) and 50 (boo) and windy (double boo). the scenery was beyond gorgeous!! colorful kites flying against a backdrop of the capitol and the washington monument is kind of amazing.

this guy had a tiny little car. it was hilarious!

i was kind of obsessed with how much fun all the kids were having

butterfly kites!!
motorcycle kite!

3 guys singing "under the boardwalk"- their harmonies were great!
wandering back, checking out the cherry blossoms

the next weekend, we were invited to a bbq in brookland (what what). our friends chris and eileen hosted a little shindig out in the NE so lp, his roomie jj and i all headed over there. it was GORGEOUS outside that day. 80 and sunny, a little breeze, perfect. there was a smoked ham, traditional bbq sides and grilled pineapple:

eileen did not want her picture taken

after 5 years together, lp and i finally decided to celebrate our anniversary! we have no clue when it actually is (we're so romantic) so we made up a date (april 2) and went out to a great dinner at a seafood place by my house. on monday, i came home and lp told me to check the mail. i went down and there was a box of beautiful tulips for me!! i love getting flowers and it was a wonderful surprise!!!!
a little droopy, but they perked up the next day (of course, i didn't get a picture!)
so spring is here. it's been in the 50-60's here. i'm ready for sun.
