executive membership

mike and i went to costco today. we decided to go in on a joint membership since we don't know how much either of us would use the store. it ended up that we were there for over 2 hours!!! we started off getting our cards from the fabulous herman and then headed to the food area for a delish hot dog. then it was up and down every single aisle to decide what we "needed" (ha ha!). it was a great day for it because it has been SNOWING in OCTOBER here. yes, that's right. snowing. all day.

we're getting one of these when we get back from brazil and i can't stop thinking about him. how can you resist those short legs and that chubby tummy? i just want to bite him!

lp is gone again and although it's not as bad as last time, i miss him. so i have compiled a list of ten of my favorite things about him.

1. he loves me, crazy and all

2. he hugs me when i've had a rough day/am stressed out/get over stimulated

3. he makes me laugh all the time

4. he dances with me in the mornings when we get ready

5. he cooks me dinner anytime i want (or will get me dinner if he doesn't feel like cooking)

6. he kisses me all the time

7. he likes to go all over the world with me

8. he lets me make lists of things for us to do

9. he can fix anything in our house

10. he loves me, crazy and all

choices, choices, choices

it's been busy here in our house lately. about 3 weeks ago, our block had a block party. it was so much fun! we had the street blocked off and everyone pulled coolers, chairs, grills and food out to the street. there were games and talking and all kinds of fun neighborhood-y stuff going on.

the following week, lp and i started our painting. we began on friday and it took us all the way until sunday to finish and even then we weren't completely done (the people who painted the house before us painted the half bathroom blood red, like murder bathroom. they also decided to paint the ceiling red, then paint over one coat of white so when we were done painting it turned out we needed to paint the ceiling.) it was not as bad as i thought it would be. we painted and painted and painted all day, everyday, for like 10-12 hours. it was exhausting, but so worth it in the end. our house was in dire need of a paint job (they had chosen hideous colors!) so we're much happier about it all now.

last weekend, lp's sister came to town. it was a BEAUTIFUL weekend- weather in the 70s, sunny, breezy. gorgeous. we ended up going to the mlk memorial and the roosevelt memorial on friday, which was really great. saturday, she and i went shopping while lp watched the longhorns get whooped by ou and then we had people over for drinks. sunday, we went to see a movie and then to the zoo. it was a great weekend.

lp just left for africa for 8 weeks. it's going to be a long 2 months, but maybe i'll be blogging more. so far, i've been the most productive person in the world. finishing painting, sweeping the backyard, re-potting plants- you know, that stuff. we will see how this all goes!!

i'm so obsessed with fall right now. i can't stop thinking about midi-skirts, sweaters, boots, scarves and all things fall related. one day, this outfit will be mine.....(well, probably not, but it can't hurt to dream!)

girls in white dresses.....

i have a lot of days where i say "this is my favorite thing ever" so i have decided to compile a list of my favorite things. for today.

1. my favorite color: right now it's green, like the green that has popped up all over our back yard because of the rain. it's like NEON green and i'm kind of in love with it.

2. my favorite day of the week: sunday. it's when lp and i lay in bed and talk, read or watch tv. so cozy!

3. my favorite neighborhood: ours, of course!!! our block had a block party last weekend and i think it was just about the best thing ever.

4. my favorite clothing item: grandpa sweater. since i was in high school and found my first one at goodwill, i will always fall in love with a comfy grandpa sweater to wear with great jeans.

5. my favorite person: lp, of course. he's super awesome. we're about to paint this weekend and he's really been stepping it up in the home improvement department, which i adore.

6. my favorite food: babybel cheese. peeling off the wrapper and that red wax is one of the highlights of my day.

7. my favorite flower: lillies are really doing it for me right now. i seem to buy some almost every week at the store.

8. my favorite way to look at the world: my camera(s). i still love taking pictures and seeing what turns out. i'm on the hunt for a cool polaroid camera, although the film is achingly expensive.

9. my favorite drink: home made decaf coffee with that new naturals coffeemate. delish!

10. my favorite future thing: our fireplace. i can't wait to use it. you can believe that the first snap of true cold and i'm all out fire lady, complete with s'mores and wine and movies.

having nothing to do this summer sure was busy

so this summer has been crazy. i've been not working very much but somehow we've been super busy anyway. so here's my summer life!!!

1. this is what i see almost every day when i drive to work. dude. it's kind of awe inspiring.

2. we discovered a hole in the wall, authentic thai restaurant. it's in a basement, it's a fixed price and you don't order, the guy just cooks you what he feels like. and it's amazing. clearly, aaricka and kyle gave it 2 thumbs up.



3. we went to see my morning jacket. for the hundreth time. they are one of our favorite bands and we all car pooled out to merriweather to see the show. i drank adult sno-cones (sno-cone with vodka!!), kyle let us ruin his shirt during the show, there was nasa beer bear and we all got sweaty and danced.

4. we went to west virginia for lp's family reunion. it was breathtakingly gorgeous (of course i forgot to bring my good camera). there was a gold tournament and i got to drive the golf cart. hooray!!! i found a sweet koozie in the gift shop ("if someone offers you a life, take it!) and we got to drive all through the mountains. i wanna go back!!




5. we had an earthquake. and then a hurricane 2 days later. lp and i threw a party for the 'hurriquake'

6. dc has an abundance of all-you-can-eat-and-drink places. on labor day weekend, we went to one. it was pretty good but we were STUFFED.





7. i just got back from acl. it was super great. as always. the weather was decent. i always say 'this is my last year' (because i'm getting old) but then i love it so much!!!
