pho(ne)tographs

eunuch (noun): a man or boy deprived of the testes or external genitals

what is it about the promise of a three day weekend that makes any week bearable? and thank goodness because this week was a killer. one night i worked until 830, one day i messed up my scheduling so bad at work that i was sweaty and hot with embarrassment and by friday i was ready to collapse.

this week was a big week for weebay also. our little boy became a man. or maybe not a man anymore, depending on how you look at it. that's right, he got snipped this week. poor little guy didn't even know it was coming.

up to the surgery the doctor had been telling us that he would have to wear the cone of shame when he came home. lp and i were pretty much in agreement that we didn't really think he would need it because, as lp told me, "you can't fold a bean in half." after the surgery the doctor called and was talking to me about how weebay was doing. she asked if he had ever licked his boy-parts (no), ever tried (no) or ever got to his booty (no-duh). she then told me that since he had woken up, he hadn't even given his boy parts a second glance and so, as long as we monitored him, he didn't need a cone. hooray!!! i really didn't want him to have to wear that sad little cone.

tuesday- big hair, big glasses

weebay's go to pose as soon as we get back from a walk since it's gotten warm here

sunday was an all day nap time for our little family

mr dean comes to washington

eric came to visit this weekend!!! we had so much fun, hanging out, eating, shopping and having cocktails. first up, shake shack:

and yes, i did eat a cheeseburger, fries AND a shake. boo-ya. i had a healthy appetite that evening. we went next door to eighteenth street lounge and then to russia house for cocktails. eric got some swirly, fruity drink (per usual):
we turned in early that night so we could get up and have brunch at kramerbooks. i love the concept of this place- it's a bookstore/lounge. you can read, you can eat and you can drink wine. it's packed, all the time. we started with strawberry mimosas and the boys had an obamlette while i enjoyed a waffle. delish!!!

next up: georgetown. eric has visited a few times before and he's never been to g-town (because i loathe going there on the weekends), so we decided to head there for some shopping.
after a few hours on the streets, we needed a rest (because we're old) so we went back to the house. eric played with weebay, lp made us fruity champagne cocktails and modeled his hat, and i took lots of pics.

weebay wants to be a preppy puppy

scratch off tickets (nobody won anything)

that evening, we headed to cava for dinner. as i've said before, lp and i love this place and luckily, eric does too. it was supposed to just be a few of us, but some of our friends ended up coming and we had like 9 people.

after, we went out and about. first stop, lottery tickets. eric is apparently on a huge lotto kick and i have a dormant gambling addiction, so i'm always game for the lottery.

eric wanted to be the door guy, so he started checking ids.
capital at night

let's just say we all slept like rocks, but not for very long. the next morning, eric had been wanting to go to masa 14, which has an all you eat and all you can drink prix fixe menu, so off we went for some food. we started with blood orange mimosas (i clearly love champagne) and stayed for 2 1/2 hours. afterward, we headed for a few more cocktails at a local bar. this turned into me singing richard marx, some air guitar and too many miller lights.

the night ended at our house, watching the oscars, eating hummus and with me eventually falling asleep on the couch. at 830. what can i say- i need my rest. eric liked the hummus the best.
love ya, eric!!!!

rain rain go away

i'm so tired of the rain here. it's been raining for years (well, maybe it just feels like years) and i've decided that the rain makes me feel several ways:

1. tired: i can't get out of bed, i just want to lay around and running? forget about it! today i slept through my alarm (i guess i more hit the snooze while i was half asleep as the alarm was going off 15 min after i had set it)

2. stir crazy: am i restless? hungry? tired? bored? antsy? i don't know!!! i don't know how to manage myself being cooped up in a house all day, much less for two days.

3. overly sensitive: we went to look at a new apartment on saturday and it wasn't great- not horrible, just not for us. this threw me into a deep depression and ended with a dramatic "we'll never find a place to live and we'll be homeless" i think if lp were prone to violence, he would have slapped me.

in closing, please stop raining, dc. i'm tired of it and i have things to do and i want to ride my bike and go places that are outside instead of staying in all day wondering when it will rain.

back in the swing of things

*warning:first post in a long time without pics. hope it's not too mundane.*

so here i am, finally writing about the things in my life and i gotta say, i've been pretty boring lately. this week i've been feeling "not so great" (i hate saying i'm sick, so this is my stock phrase) and it's made me have little pity parties for myself. the first thing i've realized is that i need it to get warmer here. i'm DYING for a glimmer of warmth (c'mon, i'm only asking for high 50's here!!) as i believe i may have S.A.D-you know, that thing that makes people get all mopey when it's cold and grey for too long. so spring, i'm calling you out of hiding in the NE. get your booty out here! second, i also need to start taking pictures again. in fact, the other night, lp and i were making a delicious dinner (spinach and cheese ravioli in a light tomato sauce with bread and some champagne) and i went to try to take some pics and my battery was dead! this means it has been too long since i've taken pics. i've also realized that i'm old (30 has hit me and i'm exhausted all the time) but i need to remember to still get out sometimes and enjoy the city even more. but really, i blame it all on the weather.

in other news, i've been working six days a week. financially- great move. mentally-worst. idea. ever. it's been draining and i'm constantly tired and i never have time to do anything and my friday nights are the same as my monday nights BUUUUUUUT-i made a lot of money. is it worth it? not for me. i originally did it because after africa, i knew i'd be broke and wanted to make up the money i spent (i'm really tight with money that i make!). what i forgot was that i've always valued my time, my friendships and my life experiences over money. i mean, would i have been doing what i do if i were in it for the money? so, lesson learned. i can hack a saturday here or there, but overall, working this much is not for me. in fact, i think i'm going to try and work friday mornings only starting this summer!

hope everyone has a healthy and happy week! i've decided to start doing a 'soundtrack' for some of my posts, like what i'm listening to at that moment or what songs are in my head or whatever. so today's soundtrack moment is a band called the morning benders and their album "big echo" - check it out, ya'll!
